From there there is no age maximum for users, which is why social media will never die. It seems that once parents feel that their kids are ready for the responsibility of their first iPhone, iPods, or any device, social media are some of the first apps downloaded other than games. The age demographics seems to grow constantly. When it comes to the platforms themselves I don’t think there will be a change in the four pillars of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. Growing up along social media has been really unique, because my generation will be able to tell the stories, to our kids and grandkids, of life without social media and the beginning struggles, like Snapchat without the dog face filter, and only being able to post one picture per Instagram post. Having a childhood where social media was just starting, I felt like I had one of the last childhoods that will remember playing outside every day rather than sitting around on our phones, which I believe is why I enjoy being outside so much. There is no other time that I would want to grow up in. Recently, I started connecting JLITM to my Instagram and Twitter post, as a reminder to myself to try to grab just a few pictures and videos to remember the moment but ultimately just live in the moment. I try to stay off my phone as much as possible, whenever I go to concerts and festivals, despite getting a few pictures for the gram, of course! There is nothing wrong with getting a picture or two, or grabbing a video of a favorite song, but there is something special about disconnecting from my phone and just enjoying the moment. Traveling and going to music concerts and festivals are two of my favorite things, and I feel that social media has taken some of the natural beauty away from them. It is no longer about Just Living In The Moment (JLITM) anymore. Social media has become the main platform for companies and celebrities to build their following, which in turn makes money.ĭespite the benefits of connecting with friends and family, as well as making money, that come with social media I do believe there are some detrimental aspects that come with social media. I see others using social media to build up their company or personal brand. I always looked at Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as a way to connect with the people I know, rather than a way to make money. Prior to taking any Advertising/ Public Relations classes, I never took any steps into using social media in a more professional matter. I am fairly family oriented, and Facebook has given me great joy connecting with them. Being able to connect with them about my college experience means the world to me and my grandma. My grandma was one of twelve kids, and each of her siblings love hearing about their grand nieces and nephews. I enjoy posting on Facebook to stay connected with my very big extended family. Being able to talk to friends easily has allowed me to build and keep relationships, with some of the most important people in my life. Without Snapchat, I wouldn’t talk to my date from my high school senior prom, a friend in the U.S. Here is one of the few pictures I took from Breakaway Grand Rapids 2019
